The Student Activity and Recreation & Fitness Center at the University of Lima in Peru is the first completed project under Sasaki’s master campus planning initiative for the university. As a brand-new six-story reinforced concrete structure, the center provides students with fitness, catering, and study spaces.
Featuring a balanced layout of dedicated activity areas and versatile multi-purpose venues, the center aims to foster a friendly, open, and engaging campus atmosphere. It offers student-athletes services including nutritional assessment, professional counseling, physical therapy, and weight training, complemented by a multi-functional sports arena capable of accommodating up to 600 people and a fully equipped gymnasium. Designed with integrated functionality as its core, the center serves as a primary venue for large-scale campus events and sports activities, while also providing a social hub, study space, and tranquil retreat for all faculty and students.
Leveraging the mechanical stability and adaptability of U profile glass, the material is employed in the building’s envelope and internal partitions for public spaces. U profile glass meets the fundamental requirements of campus buildings for natural lighting and sound insulation, creating a quiet and comfortable environment for teaching and research. Its flexible installation method also allows seamless adaptation to the functional needs of different campus structures.
In this project, U profile glass is primarily utilized in the campus’s Entertainment, Health, and Student Life Center—a core component of the University of Lima’s renovation program. Undertaking diverse functions such as cultural exchange, academic seminars, sports activities, and leisure, the center demands a material that balances lighting performance, spatial comfort, and safety. The inherent properties of U profile glass perfectly align with these requirements, making it a key material for the building’s facade and critical enclosure structures.
